all hope is not lost. first, clone the drive without making any further changes to it. This is an important first step and will serve as your backup in case something else happens. If the software you use to recover files completely screws up, you can always push the clone back too it. Recovering any files is a bit trickier, and depending on the solution may end up costing some money. The only company that i know of off the top of my head that can recover linux/unix file systems is FinalData (www.finaldata.com), but according to their website they are still only doing ext2. When redoing your boxes, don't forget to take a full backup :) Mike.
