CONTENT:
History of open source; comparison with standard software development
practices; agile programming; test-driven development; project management
implications; copyright issues; developing software in distributed
teams; common pitfalls; the economics of open source development; tools:
packaging, web2.0 collaboration tools, shared code repositories, use of
bug tracking

ASSESSMENT:
- 20% mid-term exam
- 30% essay (theory: differences and implications of open
  source to standard development)
- 50% project (building an on-line service, complete using
  open-source tools)

PREREQUISITES:
- Any subjects where students have learned at least two languages
- Note: this subject is NOT just for CS students. No prior knowledge of
  networking, algorithms, etc etc will be required. This is more a
  hands-on worksheet driven subject where students will be get to tinker
  with the huge array of open source tools.
