Fedora Core 3 or 4 on a Centrino Laptop?

Hi all.

I recently upgraded my Centrino laptop with a larger hard drive.

I've set it up with a dual boot of Win XP Pro and a Linux distro so I 
can work on "iPod and Linux" for the OSCON booth.

I do not want to reformat my iPod's disk for fat32, prefer to keep it 
in the Mac OS X native hfs+ format.

I already have a Windows utility program Mac Drive 5, which allows 
WIndows to mount a Mac-formatted drive (including  iPod) with full 
read/write access. This will allow me to use iTunes for Windows on my 
iPod w/o having to use fat32 conversion.

On the linux side, I wanted to use Fedora Core either 3 or 4 because 
I've seen that the support for the Mac hfs+ file system is already 
built in. On time, I installed/booted Fedora Core 3 on my amd64 with 
an external Firewire HD attached, formatted in a Mac with hfs+.  The 
"udev" automatically detected the hfs+ partition and mounted it 
read/write. I successfully copied a file to this disk.

I tried install of both FC 3 and 4 on my Gateway/Centrino laptop and 
both come up in a non-useable graphical mode. I didn't bother to try 
to set things right, but I'd like to know if anyone has succeeded 
with FC on a laptop. I recall someone had mentioned success with 
Ubuntu and I may explore that possibility later.

After I gave up on FC, I successfully installed SUSE 9.3 Pro. In the 
long run, this is a likely candidate for my regular desktop/laptop 
OS. Probably does not have hfs+ support built-in, but probably not 
difficult to add.

If not for the OSCON deadline, I'd stick to SUSE. If someone can 
point me toward getting FC configured with a working graphics mode on 
my laptop, I'd want to pursue that path.
