Gtkam works on my machine as well with my Cannon Powershot A300. I
didn't have to do anything to my camera to get gtkam setup and I didn't
need the software that came on the CD. You'll only need the software if
you use your camera with Windows.

I use gqview to view the images. Someone might know of something better,
but gqview works well for me.
