OK, I'm going to go out on a limb here and try some dubios deductive 
reasoning.

If we have both a mandrake-release and a redhat-release, I'm divining 
that it's a Mandrake box.

Mandrake uses RPM, Redhat uses RPM.  Mandrake started as an offshoot of 
RedHat.  RedHat was not based on Mandrake.  So, in my mind, it stands to 
reason that Mandrake would be using some RedHat stuff, but that RedHat 
would not be using Mandrake stuff.

Of course, watching the box boot is probably more usefull. But why 
reboot when you don't have to? :)
