You can simply boot the rh7 disc in rescue mode, and once you have a shell prompt from the disc, mount your root partition and edit the passwd (or shadow) file to remove the root password. Then you can boot into the system again and set the password to something which you hopefully won't forget again. (Make sure all network cables are unplugged before you do this: you'll be completely open and exposed to anyone who tries to login as root remotely!). Another way would be to put linux single in your LILO boot prompt, which will give you a root shell after bootup, in single-user mode. In this case, you can change the password using the passwd utility directly, and on next boot, it will be what you expect it to be. -- By their own reckless arrogance they perished: childish fools, They ate the Oxen of the Sun, and lost their hope of Home. http://stormwyrm.blogspot.com/ _________________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Newbie Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
