Try running the following commands. Let us know if something comes up.
# iwconfig wlan0
# iwlist wlan0 scan
The first command shows the current configuration of the first wireless
LAN interface, the second initiates a scan to find access points and
ad-hoc cells in range (assuming broadcast signals are enabled).
Running
$ dmesg
might also help. Check to see if you get any kernel messages about the
availability of the wireless interface after the ipw2200 module was
loaded.
