This works for unprotected and WEP-based APs with 64-bit keys. To
connect to APs protected by 128-bit keys or other protection methods
(WPA, for example), you may want to look at the wpa_supplicant[1]
utility. On Debian and variants, that should be as simple as
# apt-get install wpa_supplicant
