Re: resolving local area network computers via computer name

There are many possibilties, if you happen to run samba on that box
before, there is a possibility that devserv is the netbios name which
is being resolved.
Another possibility is that a wins service is running somewhere on
your network, wherein the record of devserv is already "expired", thus
you can no longer resolve its netbios name.

I am a big fan of BIND, if you need local dns service, i strongly
suggest you to study BIND.
