Installation Problem using rpm or yum

Hi,
   
  I'm having trouble installing RPM files using rpm or yum this past few weeks. It works before, and then I found out that my kernel is not updating via yumex when there's new version available.
   
  So I downloaded the RPM file and issue an rpm -ivh onto it. But my kernel's version did not change and also my grub.conf listing. Same thing happened when I used the yum localinstall command.
   
  The error message says
  error: db4 error(-30987) from dbcursor->c_get: DB_PAGE_NOTFOUND: Requested page not found
error: error(-30987) setting "" records from Requireversion index

  I think the problem is not about the RPM file. I am using Fedora Core 4. Kindly help me.
