Of course. That's completely your prerogative.

You can either have Zope answering port 80 directly, or have Zope
sitting behind Apache (this allows you to have some Apache+PHP sites and
some Zope sites). More HOWTOs available on zope.org.

Again, security is a process, not a product. Having said that, in my
experience there are much less exploits to worry about with Zope+Plone
than with anything running on PHP.
