there are a few schools involved in Germany, none of them elementary, though.
I assumed that schools would be the second-best organization to do an LPD
event after universities:
1) They have enough computers.
2) They have easy access to several hundred pupils and parents.
3) It would help a lot if pupils notice over many years that there is a Linux
event once or twice per year at their school even if they never attend to it.
I am sure they would at least take Linux a lot more serious.
Every school has several hundred teachers, pupils, and parents. Assuming a
"market" share of 1% to 2% for Linux there should be 10+ Linux users with a
close connection to the school, most of them should be willing to help with
such a school event (if they have time then).
A few years ago German politics deleoped a new "hobby": "MINT advancement".
MINT is the German abbreviation for math, computer science, natural sciences
and technology. They try to change the schools (i.e. making these topics more
interesting) so that more pupils chose a job or academic studies in this area.
Thus I called about 100 schools all over Germany which have received a kind of
MINT award. That was a lot of work because hardly anyone responds to email and
try to get an ordinary teacher on the phone... Much work, little result (about
five schools).
I assume that it will work better the other way round: When the LPD is well-
known in the Linux community then many people with connection to a school
might think about doing an LPD event at their school without being asked
personally.
