Good Javascript debug environment?

Hi all,

I'm writing a short piece of javascript code to make arbitrary web
pages compatible with a feature of the Surf browser. Unfortunately,
within the Surf environment, a Javascript syntax or runtime error
simply stops the program, but it's very hard to see where it happened.
I've heard there are environments that are better accommodated to
debugging javascript than a browser. Could you please recommend some?
