Partitions and RAID.

I have a few questions, and if anyone can answer them, it would help me
immensely...

1. Let's say someone has 2 disks and they want to put them into RAID 1
configuration. If one the disks, populated with data, has two partitions, is
there any way to keep those partitions when doing the RAID? As in, the RAID
1 array will be split into two partitions. The second disk, in this case, is
blank, but can of course be partitioned. My assumption is that it is not
possible; that RAID will only take the entire DRIVE into account. In Windows
terms, because that is what I unfortunately have to use, the two drives will
just be treated as one giant F: drive -- at least using Windows software
RAID. If it is possible using hardware RAID (we have SCSI drives), then we
can upgrade.

2. If we 4 disks, two 36.7Gb, two 18Gb, can we have one RAID 1 array between
the two 36gigabyters, and another array between the two 18Gb ones? If anyone
has ever done RAID via Windows 2000, is this something that this software
would allow? I believe it is, but I've run into so many stumbling blocks
with RAID already, I don't want to make more mistakes.

3. Does anyone have any tips to share about Windows software RAID? I know
this is a Linux list; I love UNIX as much as the rest of us, but I work in a
Windows environment, and I know others on this list do too.

If anyone can answer any question, or even just give tips, it will be
appreciated to an extent I can't describe. I'm doing 20,000 things at once
at work right now, and having no experience doesn't help very much. (I'm
just out of high school, this is my first time encountering real server
hardware.)
