A bit of history.. At one point I lived near UIC and "ran" Chicago Land Linux Users Group (CLUG), about the same time Dan Yocum ran Argonne Area Linux Users Group (AALUG, basically west suburbs). Dan also had luni.org (Linux Users Of Northern Illinois) domain. I wanted to create LUNI as an umbrella organization (registered as non-profit and all that good stuff) for local LUGs like CLUG and AALUG and others. I don't think Dan was too interested in this at the time, eventually (a year or so ago?) Dan and others stopped running AALUG due to various reasons, and transferred luni.org to us (me). In the meantime other LUGs have started, like NWCLUG, DePaul LUG, College of DuPage LUG, WindyCity, etc... Some are still around, others I am not sure. I no longer live downtown, although I spend a great deal of time around UIC (for personal reasons), so I have not managed to organize many meetings at UIC lately. If you want to start having meetings in that area, I'd suggest either a) take a look at WindyCity LUG or b) re-start CLUG meetings (used to be second Wed of the month). I am willing to help with b). > <constructive criticism> > Perhaps www.luni.org should contain have a section or a link to a page > that describes > * How to get involved* > > Perhaps you should remove the link to http://clug.chicago.il.us since it > doesn't appear to be > active and the information on it is stale and misleading/frustrating. > Alternatively, we could > update information on this page and make it a useful source of information > about how to > get involved in the downtown chicago area. Yes, luni.org needs works, I've had so far a number of people volunteer to help, but no one has actually done anything (I haven't even heard from most since). > Perhaps the following description for the lists should be used instead of > the > current ones: > luni-announce is used for announcements only > luni is the main list used for on-topic and techincal discussion > luni-d is used for general (off-topic) discussion done. /Seva
