Hi Luni, Happy (almost) Thanksgiving!

I watched this thread with great interest as I need a new file server. Its
for my home, to which I connect a few Win 7 boxes and a couple of ubuntus.

I'd like to build a simple, management-less NAS like a Drobo, but I don't
want to pay for a Drobo, they seem kinda expensive.

I like the idea of these small machines like a DNS-321 (or drobo) but I read
they don't have great performance.  Not sure about an Atom based box.

I guess I'm just looking for any lessens learned, or advice offered on what
I should look for in terms of both hardware and software.  Keeping in mind I
just want it to run like an appliance.
