I've done the virtual mail server, imap, pop3, smtp, spam assassin, etc etc etc..... its a pain to get working. If you have a cheapo ISP or are just a weirdo like me running your mail server off your low end DSL line you end up fighting with sbc or comcast to open up port 25... and at the end of the day I'd rather spend my time doing something else then tinkering with this stuff. Google provides me with gigs upon gigs of data at no charge (besides my soul which they already own). I can add users, delete users on the fly... I've been using google apps for 4-5 years now haven't had any problems. my @esamir.com emails are all done via google.
