I think what Martin is suggesting is that you make changes in your MUA
(Mail User Agent) like KMail, Thunderbird etc.

Most likely the "real" SMTP server at your work is configured
differently.  You need to check the relay configuration in the SMTP
server @ work and possibly make changes to allow relay from ssmtp.
