Honestly, I don't think venue is a critical point.  For a presentation...sure...

but you could just have a social initial gathering...

We're meeting at blah coffee shop, we'll have a stuff penguin, come
join us... we'll be discussing
the intricacies of Linux, why we use it.. why its important.  etc.

Then just figure out the technical level of all.. see if someone knows
of a place with a projector/white board..
and go from there.  I wouldn't get too stuck on the details, find out
if there is an audience.

I ran the NIU lug ages ago at coffee shops/bars for a good while.  As
long as you have people
with an interest, location isn't as important.

Just my biased 2 cents.
