Don't assume I know what an AM2 socket is.... Anyway, anybody listing a computer on craig's list is not likely to say what kind of socket the cpu is in, so that doesn't really help. They may say "Dell model xyz" so a table of assembled computers by model number would be good. Otherwise a rule like "anything over 2.4 GHz will virtualize, anything under 1.2 GHz will not, those in the range of 1.4 to 2 GHz may or may not" could be useful. A seller may say "Athlon", but early Athlons don't vitualize, so that doesn't help.

Unlike Intel, AMD has never used virtualization (or other tweaky 
features, like ECC protection for RAM) to divide its product line 
confusingly. IIRC, any Athlon (or, of course, Phenom) in an AM2 or 
later socket has the virtualization support. Sempron, mobile variants, 
not so early I think. Opteron - well, you're looking for cheap, so any 
Opteron that meets your price point is more than likely too old.
