Since I had Google's multiple sign-on enabled, my actions tied me to
my "default" group account which is apparently the first account
logged in during that browser session.

I went in via the direct link afterwards to join from my selected
personal account.

So all is well, but if you use the Google feature for multiple account
sign on, you might want to confirm you joined the group with the
email/account you intended.
