Alsa Sound + channels

Hi gang.

I was wondering if you guys can give me a hand here.

Please note my lack of knowledge RE: sound hardware here.

I am running Fedora Core 3 on Asus A7v333 that has C-Media (CMI) 8738
soundcard onboard, which was detected fine by the installation and I
have no problems playing DivX files, mp3, streaming radios, even flash
animations with sounds. The problem is, I can only get 1 sound from 1
apps at a time. For example, if I am playing mp3 in the background, I
won't get mail notification sound or Gaim's message notification sound
or any sound at all. I think this has to do with Alsa only enabling 1
channel. Does anyone has .asoundrc handy that I can have a look?
