What's normally used for shielding CRT's from stray magnetic fields is a 
metal called mu metal. It is especially formulated NOT to retain and 
mafnetic properties from external sources and therefore makes a very 
effective faraday screen.
Mild steel is not too bad, so maybe try to get a plate of mild steel 
from your local supplier. Don't get anything with additives like carbon 
and silicon, as these impurities make mild steel retain magnetism.

The mild steel plate will of course have to be grounded to your PC's 
power supply.
