I run an ATI 9200se with no problems whatsoever, the only difference 
being that I won't use the ATI drivers because I prefer the generic ATI 
driver in XFree86-4.3.0

So maybe try the generic driver if there is one in Xorg, also tuxracer 
works fine under the generic driver.
