Hi Rick
Just checked my /etc/udev/permissions.d/50-udev.permissions ( i really 
don't know what i'm doing) there seems to be a permission for the camera 
as follows;

# camera devices
camera*:root:root:0600
usb/dc2xx*:root:root:0600
usb/mdc800*:root:root:0600

am i looking in the right place??
the udev.conf file suggests that a lot of things can get broken tinkering!!
