Wow..

i never thought that the tpg topic would be met with such hatred :). 

just for the record, despinte appaling customer service, i've found their 
actualy service fine. not many dropouts, good speeds etc. clearly i'm one of 
the lucky ones.

thanks for all the advice about voip providers.. i'll have to look into it...

however apart from the hosts idea, nobody really had any ideas about the 
re-routing thing...  any others? i don't really want to set up a dns 
server ...
