Meanwhile it seems to be running without any problems. I've dumped Debian about a year ago and am sticking with Gentoo now. Although I don't have a 64bit box myself, a good friend of mine never had any problems with Gentoo and 64bit, I think. So get Gentoo if you want to be safe.
