Toshiba Laptop

One of my sons is the lucky owner of a Toshiba Satellite L10 laptop running
Win XP. He can no longer access his modem to connect to the internet after
having removed 10 or so worms and virusses. He only uses it for net surfing,
music playing and producing the occasional word document. He simply does not
need Windows.

So are there any known issues with modern Toshiba laptops and modern Linux
distros?
