If the internal modem is a winmodem but has a lucent chipset there shouldn't 
be a problem

I never had a problem with compiling drivers for winmodems with lucent chips 
with ltmodem drivers. It is a script driven process against kernel source but 
the ltmodem package must be matched to the kernel. It was pretty painless the 
last time I used it. I've been adsl for a year and a half now so can't say 
more than that.
