Yes, Ubuntu is easy to use. It is number two  of my two favorite Linux
distros in daily use. I personally would recommend Puppy Linux (presently
version 2.02) to newbies, since it boots from a DVD, reads from it, and
writes to the same DVD, which at the next boot-up becomes
"multisessional". The iso file is only around 70-72 MB. Puppy does not
need a hard drive, and does not interfere with any previous partition.
