Anyone got any suggestions for a distro to run on an early PowerPC
(pre G3) based Mac? I've got one here without an OS, and would like
to put Linux on it. The other choice is MacOS 9.1, but these days,
there's no new apps appearing for that platform, so Linux would be my
preferred choice now. Unfortunately, the machine isn't compatible
with OS X. :-( But I'm hoping Linux will make it much more useful. :)

Any suggestions? It will be used in a desktop role, so I'm looking
for something that has a reasonable out of the box desktop setup and
is fairly well maintained (security updates via yum, apt, etc
released promptly).

A wide range of packaged apps would be nice, but if push comes to
shove, I can work from source if needed. :) The machine is going to
be used mostly for Internet access - web browsing, email (mostly
Hotmail via the web) and IM (Gaim! :) ). I'll also be installing
Samba on it as well, as the rest of the machines are Windows based...
