Hi All Chris posted this under the wrong thread, but the info looks good. May be the answer Geoffrey is looking for. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------- Hi, Try this http://www.lesbell.com.au/Home.nsf/b8ec57204f60dfcb4a2568c60014ed0f/6733 15301751997aca256f6c001a2941?OpenDocument Cheers, Chris ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------- Regards, Cambo -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Geoffrey Scott Sent: Thursday, 21 September 2006 4:52 PM To: Andrew McGlashan; Melbourne Linux Users Group Subject: RE: [MLUG] PCL -> PS -> PDF on CUPS Andrew McGlashan wrote: > Hi Scott, > > Geoffrey Scott wrote: >> Do any of you have some experience of creating a printer in cups that >> does this? I mentioned this as a case of "I've gotten this far; now I want to go further" scenario. But thanks for the heads up I'll keep this in mind for my laptops. > I keep it much simpler -- printing to PDF using "PDF Creator", then if > I need to print to the printer, I print page(s) as required from the > PDF that was created. > > PDF Creator at sourceforge: > http://www.pdfforge.org/products/pdfcreator/ > > Kind Regards > > AndrewM This is a centralised UNIX based accounting package that expects raw print queues and expects to be able to send pcl commands directly to the printer. Before it sends a print job to a pcl4 compatible printer it sends a pcl overlay document to create letter headed pages which then receive the document on top of that. The application sends this part using pcl commands directly. It only understands PCL. On the same box I have CUPS running as the print subsystem. With raw print queues to handle this one particular application. But for print processing it really only understands PostScript (or at least that's how I understand it ;-) ) So I need to get from pcl commands with overlay -> postscript -> PDF file ........
