Re: taking pictures at certain times

Leon, I picked up a cheap Logitech QuickCam Express and had a play with this 
over the weekend.

The application xwatv comes with some CLI aps that access webcams for saving 
video to disk, streaming video on a network and also for saving jpeg images 
to disk.

Using the below script I saved a bunch of avi clips to disk

#!/bin/bash
COUNT=0
until [ $COUNT -eq 60 ]
do
   streamer -q -c /dev/video1 -f rgb24 -r 24 -t 00:00:20 -o /videos/test/`date 
+%m%d%H%M`.avi 
   sleep 60
   COUNT=$(( $COUNT + 1 ))
done

The streamer command does the work. It'd be smarter to run it as a cron job. 
In this script a 20 sec video is made every 60 seconds Each file gets a 
unique date/time name. 

QC Express is a low end webcam if you went this route you'd need to buy 
something better for long distance focus and greater pixels.
