  You would need the ODBC drivers for you windows box, so that you can move 
your data from Excel to your RDBMS.

  I use MyODBC (http://www.mysql.com/products/connector/odbc/).

  Another step is to design your DB.  This is relatively server independent. 
When designing your DB, there are a couple of things to consider.  The more 
tables you have, the more complicated your queries are.  On the other hand, 
if you put everything in too few tables, you might end up fighting with your 
data.  Are you comfortable designing your DB or would you like some 
different points of view?
