I have a new Ubuntu 7.10 EMT64 install that is freezing under a
heavy-load application.
Does anybody out there know about a way to find out why it is freezing?
Some sort of kernel profiler and/or debugger?
The "heavy load" is nothing more than a simple script with
4000 ImageMagick "convert" commands.... operating on
4000/12000 image files in a single folder.
It usually freezes sometime between frame 500 to 2000 in the list.
I was able to repeat the freeze on an ext3 filesystem, on two
different SATA disks. I then converted one of those disks to
XFS, and was able to repeat the same freeze behavior.
As long as I don't try to process these files... the machine seems
perfectly stable.
So... I don't think it is SATA hardware. (repeated on two disks)
I don't think it is a filesystem bug. (repeated on two filesystems)
Any other ideas?
... processing long lists of images into videos was one
of the main reasons this machine was built...
