yes. works fine on other machines.
"similar" is hard to define. They are in no way identical.

Different places. I put a "sleep 2" in there every 100 frames, and it
still crashed after a similar (variable) number of frames.
That was really, really odd to me.

I could try a custom kernel.
I'd hate to go to 32-bit, but I could convert that extra data disk into
another OS to boot to give it a shot.
Re-building debug version of "convert" might also be a good idea.
The only other library it should be using is libjpeg, which I should
also be able to build in a debug version.
