Re: Some reference power consumption

Seems a bit high.

I put a Kill-a-watt on the new machine I'm building.
It is interactively running, but not doing anything too intensive.
Mostly downloading and installing software (some disk access)
It is writing to the single SATA system disk.
5 fans happily blowing away, making a raquet.

2000 VA UPS alone           ???   I didn't measure
Not terribly busy machine   200W  (with UPS too)
Machine with 24" LCD on     240W  Machine+monitor+UPS

This is a somewhat massive gamer-type machine.
Dual Xeon quad-cores (8 cores total), a GeForce 8800 GPU,
and (3) SATA drives.

The UPS is showing a power-factor of 0.99.
I don't know if UPS's usually show such good power factors,
weather or not the computer is running close to 1.0.

I'm downloading openarena now to see if I can use that fancy
GPU.  We'll see how power changes then.
