Haste makes confusion. In my reply yesterday I should have offered more 
explanation. All the PCI slots on my mobos are in use, but I wanted to 
add capacity for 2 more SATA HDDs. At a certain point in time when 
PCI-X16 was introduced, manufacturers often still included a PCI-X slot 
even though it was instantly obsolete. So there's this unusable graphics 
slot until somebody came up with the idea of conversion cards for 
various applications; PCI-X to SATA II, sure!

You mentioned what your mobo doesn't have but not what it does have, so 
my recommendation might not be pertinent.
