I checked out KDE 4.04 from the Mandriva Spring 2008.1 release, and 
wasn't impressed. A lot of razzle-dazzle with little functional 
improvement. I don't need my desktop to be an entertainment medium. For 
instance, I like a plain solid-color background and KDE4 doesn't offer 
any obvious way to do that.

KDE is nice for the many Kxxx utilities being written for its libraries, 
but you can use a different windows manager.
