Hi Sam:

There is no landline broadband in my area of Santa Fe County (east of
Tesuque Village), so I use a Wildblue satellite link which imposes
monthly usage quotas. The speed is good but this precludes me from
downloading entire Linux distros - particularly Debian Etch with 3 DVDs
full of goodies. Instead I order distros from Frozentech
(www.frozentech.com, named after Tux, I guess) with $1.99 First Class
Mail shipping, which is the way to go.

Ah, Big Buck Bunny. Thanks, but I've seen some clips, which is enough
for me for now. At least it is coherent, unlike Elephants Dream. I'm
most looking forward to Plumiferos, an animated feature from Argentina
(http://www.plumiferos.com/index-en.php). They don't have to worry so
much about Hollywood conventions.

I though last year's top animated feature was Surf's Up, although Oscar
disagreed (politics!). Sony Pictures Imageworks won't say specifically
what software they use,
but their animator job recruitment blurbs require knowledge of Linux.

BTW, I don't know about the 9600GT, but the 8800GT (around $150 now) can
be turned into a Quadro FX4600 ($1250 and up) with a bios trick and
substituting Quadro drivers. Much faster rendering, same GPU; price
difference is marketing BS.
