I may be your last choice... but I have been looking into Android
development.

Their development toolkit is free, and relatively straightforward,
for an embedded platform.

All java. Eclipse is preferred development environment.
They deliver tools and libraries for Eclipse.
All phones come with development interface, no rooting nececessary...
unless you want some special access to protected interfaces, like 3G

What did he have in mind?
Would it be too risky to use a developer with over 20 years
experience, including embedded, but NO android experience?
