ANNOUNCE: SLUG Meeting, Friday 27th June 2003

Monthly Meeting: June

When: Friday, June 27, 6:30pm - 9:30pm
Where: UTS Broadway, room 2.4.13 and (SLUGlets) 2.4.11

   SLUG's monthly meeting, featuring general talks, special interest
   talks and SLUGlets.

   Open to the public and free of charge.

   This month's meeting will be in room 2.4.13 at UTS, and SLUGlets will
   be in nearby room 2.4.11. See http://www.slug.org.au/events/uts.html for 
   directions and a map of UTS.

   This month, SLUG will be holding a distribution forum, where
   representatives will talk briefly about the strengths of some of the
   major Linux distributions and answer questions

   The technical talk will be given by Angus Lees, about the mod_perl,
   embperl and Apache technology behind the SLUG website.

   As usual, SLUGlets will be running in a nearby room for those who do
   not wish to attend the technical talk.

   6:30pm: Doors Open

   6:45pm: The Usual Suspects
          Q&A - Introduction to SLUG + "What has Linux done for/to me
          lately?" + SLUG News & Discussion

   7:15pm: SLUG forum - Distribution comparison
   8:00pm: Break
          Refreshments in the foyer, for a small covering charge.

   8:20pm: Split into two groups for:

          + Angus Lees, about the mod_perl, embperl and Apache technology
            behind the SLUG website.
          + SLUGlets: quick talks and discussion of Linux and Free
            Software. This month, discussion of how to compile software
            from source.

   Dinner
          Dinner at Spice Boys (Indian), $20 per head.

   Angus Lees: mod_perl, embperl and the SLUG website

   The current SLUG website was written by Angus, using embperl as a
   scripting language to provide the dynamic functionality. Angus will be
   talking about how embperl works, and why it is good for building
   generated web content.

   SLUGlets

   Sluglets are for people new to Linux, or who are looking for
   discussion of a milder nature than the techie talk. Feel free to come
   share your experiences with Linux, to get help, or to provide it. This
   month, the discussion will be based around how to compile software
   packages from source.
