1. Intel-based Mac,
2. lots of RAM.

That's really about it.

You don't _need_ lots of RAM, but running either of those things with  
less than 2GB of RAM is asking for serious pain.  (Mind you, I'd say  
that getting any Mac with less than 2GB of RAM is also asking for  
serious pain...)
