Lanparty : FragFest @ SupaNova

Hi Slug-Chat people,

FragFest are putting on an exhibition Bring-Your-Own Computer LAN Gaming 
section on both days of the SupaNova 2008 event. We are excited to be 
able to offer expose the raw energy of LAN gaming to a larger audience 
whilst exposing the LAN gaming community to to all the awesomeness of 
SupaNova 2008. Success this year will no doubt begat more success next year!

FragFest are the oldest LANparty team in Australia. With nearly 10 years 
of LAN experience, the FragFest teams skill set is concreted with 9-5 
jobs as System and Network Administrators in some of Australias largest 
most well known companies, tertiary qualifications and industry 
certifications from Cisco, Microsoft, RedHat, Sun and HP.

When, Where and What is SupaNova?

SupaNova is a huge pop culture expo held at The Dome at Sydney Olympic 
Park on Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd of June 2008. Some 9,000+ 
persons will be in attendance. The website is www.SupaNova.com.au

What hours are the LANparty exhibition?

The LANparty section will be open for the same hours as the SupaNova 
expo, that is 10am to 6pm each day. So sorry but no, the LAN isn't 
overnight.

What Tournaments will be run on Saturday?

     * Call of Duty 4 - 5 on 5 (run by ZeGerman of gamestah)
     * Dawn of War - 2 on 2

What Tournaments will be run on Sunday?

     * Counter-Strike:Source - 5 on 5 (run by ZeGerman of gamestah)
     * Team Fortress 2 - 5 on 5

What are the prizes for the Tournaments?

We have prizes thanks to Evo-G.
The actual allocation will be posted shortly.

How do I join in?

1. Get a SupaNova Ticket.

You will first need to get a ticket for SupaNova through Ticketek. This 
will cost you $36.50 for both days or $21.75 for a single day (plus 
ticketek fees). You can pay at the door, but it costs more.

With your SupaNova ticket you will have full access to all the SupaNova 
action.

2. Register for FragFest@SupaNova

When you're done reading this page, register for the FragFest section on 
this page. You can pay online using paypal or pay as you are admitted to 
the FragFest area. This will cost $10 or $15 respectively. (if you dont 
register you may not get a place)

So it will cost you a little over $55 for both days including full 
access to everything at SupaNova

What about parking?

Parking does cost! Please see the SupaNova Website. Car Pooling or 
Public Transport is advised. (obviously public transport will be mainly 
suitable for laptop and highly portable computer systems)

What do I need to bring?

     * Your SupaNova ticket (or get it at the door)
     * Your computer or laptop
     * A monitor (not so much with a laptop)
     * Keyboard and Mouse
     * Powerboard
     * PC lock cable
     * Comfortable headphones
     * Mousing Surface/Mousepad
     * Maybe a cushion for your seat

No Speakers or Sound Effects!

What is provided for me?

     * One (1) Live Network Cable
     * One (1) Power Point
     * One (1) Chair
     * One (1) Deskspace

Bringing your own hubs or switches is completely unnecessary, as is 
bringing your own network cable. Just bring a small powerboard enough to 
provide all your computers parts with power from one outlet.

Can I play other games?

Yes, you can play whatever you want. We will even host public servers 
for them.

What are the LAN speeds?

First for 40 places get 1 gig ports, all others are 100mbps. This is 
still 50-100 times faster than an average cable or adsl connection, and 
almost infinitely faster than dial up. Also there are no data limits, 
caps, throttling, peak-off peak etc. Go bananas it costs you nothing extra.

Can I trade files?

You can, if the license for the files allows them to be redistributed 
and if they files contents arent illegal or pornographic. We provide a 
Direct Connect server to help you exchange legal files with your 
friends. (apt-get install linuxdcpp)

So you could queue up downloads of the latest release of your favourite 
Linux distribution or BSD flavour, then take off to check out SupaNova 
while it all comes down.

Is there an internet connection?

Yes. However it will only allow HTTP, Instant Messenger and Steam traffic

Is there wireless (802.11a/b/g)?

Strangely we have already been asked this question, obviously if you are 
in the LAN segment then its a complete waste of time as half duplex full 
speed 100mbps ethernet is 200% the theoretical limit of 802.11g wireless 
if there is only one node on the air.

However this question has come from some stall and other persons who 
want access. We will allow wireless access for a $5 per day fee. Ask one 
of our staff and have the MAC address of your notebook or PC handy.
