Hello Group.

                Firstly, can I thank Ben & Ken for their online help.

                I had not thought that the router could be a problem. I was
using a "Connectland CT-308P" router, as I had been using a "d-link di 524"
wireless router, but I took the wireless offline as it was creating some
"man made interference" problems, e.g. making my cable tv signal from
another room, getting a "flicker" on the screen.

                I went to the outer router as it had no wireless
interference problems.

                But I have just put the d-link back online, and was able to
get the new cable, and therefore I was able to access the network, via my
laptop, and therefore an Internet connection, and it seems there is nothing
wrong with my laptop after all, and now I have a "red face".

                Again, I do thanks all those who responded to my request for
help.

Regards & best Wishes,

Steven.

PS, I did have an interest in using "Linux" about 6 yrs back, and maybe, I
may take up that wish one day in the future.
