the original phone was a dud, now I got the replacement, so, I'm trying

I can connect OK, but, every time, I keep getting 'GPRS data connection'
on the phone's LCD

as for speed, using dslreports/mspeed I get:

in '3g' not 'h' area:

phone's browser: ab. 350 kb/s, 0.8-0.6 s latency

palm over bt: abt. 280 kb/s, 0.5-0.4 s latency

so, it doesn't seems that fast on the 3.6MBs NextG phone, I guess I should
find a 'h' area and try again

Palm being marginally slower than phone seems OK, considering 'weak link'
of bluetooth 1.1
