If you are running a particularly memory-hungry game, or if you are running other applications alongside your game, there can be a dramatic difference between the performance with 2GB and the performance with 4GB under XP-32. If you do game development, it can be the difference between testing your most recent changes, or wandering off to the water cooler, because you're not sure if your machine will ever stop swapping long enough to handle a mouse click.
