use of NextG phone overseas

I'm trying to find out if I can use my phone for data access in Europe for
a few weeks

I have a NextG Motorola handset that works on 850/1900; 900/1800; 850
Dual mode UMTS

I'm mainly interested in data access, I'm guessing that data roaming on T
network will be expensive, I'm guessing that I'm best to get a prepaid
local card.

what sort of data networks do European carriers have, in terms of
compatibility with a NextG handset?

if anyone can point me towards some information, or, share experience,
I'll be grateful
