3G router built in rod antenna positioning

are there any recomendations on how to position 3g router built-in rod
antennas (Sydney metro)?

I have a Telstra /Netcomm 7.2 3G unit, it has two stubby rod antennas,
main and aux, in a limited testing that I managed, going by the 3 signal
strength LEDs, having both antennas vertical was worst, and, having them
in V shape seemed optimal (3 LEDs), if there any dos and dont's that
anyone knows, I'd appreciate any pointers.

overall, it seems to work quite well (but I need to appear knowledgeable)
