How to protest:

Visiting your Federal member is a good idea.

Writing is also useful. In the following order:

Letters sent by post
Phone calls to Federal member - both lower and
upper house
e-mails.

E-mail does not 'weigh' as much with pollies as
snail mail does, but it is still a useful thing to do.

Writing to the shadow cabinet would also be a good
idea, though I'm not presently clear as to Mr
Abbott's position on such things.

Polite, clear and stating a reasoning (without
taking five pages) is a good idea. Just remember
that many of the pollies only see your letter when
they sign the response and sometimes they don't
read it at all. If you diverge too much or ramble
too much, it reduces the probability that they'll
concern themselves with reading it at all.

They will get a summary from their staff as to
what people are writing to them about though.

Regards,

Patrick
